Cape Canaveral, F.L.A. – NASA on Friday chose SpaceX to create the lunar lander, which will eventually put the first woman and color person on the moon.
The announcement comes just hours after SpaceX’s most international astronauts arrived in Florida for a lift next week.
Elon Musk’s Starship – Texas Launches Future, Glossy Steel Rocketship – Lidos’ subsidiary Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin and Dynamics’ proposed Landers The contract value is 89 2.89 billion.
“We will not stand on the moon,” said NASA executive Steve Zurzik. He told reporters that Mars was the ultimate destination.
NASA has refused to provide a target release date for the lunar landing Artemis mission, saying the review is ongoing. The Trump administration had set a 2024 deadline, but on Friday, NASA officials called it a goal.
“We’ll do it when it’s safe,” said Kathy Luthers, head of NASA’s Office of Human Space Research.
He pointed out that NASA and SpaceX shooting would take place later this decade. The astronauts will fly to the moon in a NASA-launched Orion capsule and then ride surface and back to the starship in lunar orbit.
NASA says it is the first woman on the moon to be one of the first moonwalkers since 1972. Another goal of the project is to send the colored person to the lunar surface, according to the space agency.
On Friday, Zurzik welcomed four astronauts to the Kennedy Space Center for SpaceX’s third team launch within a year. Coincidentally, their flight to the International Space Station is set for next Thursday – Earth Day. Zursik said it was a reminder of NASA’s mission to study the home planet.
Three men and one woman represent the United States, France and Japan: NASA’s Shane Kimberly and Megan McArthur, Thomas Baskett and Akihiko Hosheid, experienced astronauts.
“This is definitely true,” said spacecraft commander Kimbero after arriving on a flight from Houston.
It was SpaceX’s first aircraft to use a recycled Balkan rocket and a Dragon crew capsule. After the completion of the space shuttle program in 2011, NASA returned to US private companies for group transport.
“Of course, I think all of them should be considered test flights until they are available under our belt for many years,” Kimbero told reporters.
SpaceX uses identical rocket and similar capsules for distribution supplies, and recycles them.
McArthur is the only member of the crew who has not yet visited the space station. He flew the Hubble Space Telescope in 2009. And the ouster from Kennedy is new to Baskett as an astronaut for more than 11 years.
“We are living in the golden age of human spaceflight,” said former Air France pilot Pesket. “It seems like everyone, every country has a plan or spacecraft.”
The astronauts left the runway at Tesla with a pair of white gull-wings; Musk, founder of SpaceX, also runs an electric car company. They had an early bedtime to synchronize what would be going on Thursday night. Liftoff time is 6:11 p.m.
All four will replace the SpaceX crew that launched last November. All four will return to Earth at the end of April. Meanwhile, a new trio of Soyuz crew arrived at the space station from Kazakhstan last week, returning to Earth this weekend instead of two Russians and an American.
