China is landing on Mars in the latest advance for its space program

BEIJING (AP) – China has landed the spacecraft for the first time on Mars in the latest advance for its space program.

The official Xinhua news agency said on Saturday that the lander had been touched down, citing China’s National Space Administration.

Plans call for a few days of diagnostic tests on a rover lander before rolling down a curve to explore the icy region of Mars known as Utopia Planetia. It will join an American company that came to the Red Planet in February.

China’s first Mars landing last month launched a permanent space station and the main part of what will be a mission to bring rocks from the moon late last year.

“China has for the first time made a mark on Mars, which is an important step in our country’s space exploration,” Xinhua announced in one of its social media accounts.

The United States has had nine successful landings on Mars since 1976. The Soviet Union landed on the planet in 1971, but the mission failed shortly after the end of Touchdown, when the craft stopped sending information.

A rover and a small helicopter from the US landing in February are currently exploring Mars. NASA expects the rover to collect its first prototype in July to return to Earth in a decade.

China has landed on the moon before, but landing on Mars is a very difficult process because it has a very thin atmosphere.

The spacecraft must protect the heat shields from the heat of reuse and be slow enough to prevent both retro-rockets and parachutes from crashing. Parachutes and rockets must be used at the exact time to land at the designated place.

Only mini-retro rockets are needed for the moon to land, and only parachutes are sufficient to return to Earth, which has a very large atmosphere.

Touchdown Beijing time is 7:18 a.m. (23:18 GMT; 7:18 p.m. EDT), according to the state science administration. Technology and industry for national security.

The distance between Earth and Mars delayed mission control in Beijing, which ensured the successful use of conical heat shields, rockets and a large parachute.

NASA Co-Administrator Thomas Surbuchen tweeted his congratulations, saying, “I look forward to working with the global scientific community to make important contributions to this mission for mankind’s understanding of the Red Planet.”

China’s Mars landing was the primary popular topic on Weibo, a leading social media site, as people expressed excitement and pride at the achievement.
