COVID-19 on Vancouver Island: BC to provide update.

Victoria – BC Health officials are expected to release an update on the status of the Govt-19 epidemic on Friday afternoon.

Updates will be released in written form no later than 3 p.m.

On Thursday, it recorded 1,293 cases of COVID-19 over a 24-hour period. In those cases, 69 were identified on Vancouver Island.

There have been 3,818 cases of COVID-19 reported in the island health region since the outbreak, of which 566 are currently active.

Island Health has identified 486 locations in active cases, including 261 on the South Island, 194 on the Central Island and 31 on the North Island.

BC Two more people died of COVID-19 disease on Thursday, including one in the Vancouver region and one in the interior of the province.

Thirty-one people have died in the island’s health region since the outbreak began. As of Thursday, 21 people were hospitalized for COVID-19 treatment on Vancouver Island, and 7 were receiving critical care.

As of Thursday, the province has now delivered about 985,001 Govt-19 vaccine doses, health officials said.

BC Health officials also announced A new public health order On Thursday, WorkSafeBC allowed workplaces to temporarily close if three or more people were infected with COVID-19 due to workplace outbreaks.

Using examples such as police stations, fire halls and grocery stores, BC’s top doctor said Thursday: “We know for sure that there are many workplaces that cannot be closed.

“But we have some additional resources to support those workplaces when workplace transfers and labor safety are at risk,” said Dr. Bonnie Henry, the provincial health officer.
