How Canoo’s Custom-Designed Electric Vehicles Will Participate in NASA’s Artemis Missions to the Moon – Canoo (NASDAQ:GOEV)

EV startup Kano Inc (NASDAQ:GOEV) will now be part of the United States’ vision to return astronauts to the Moon.

What happened: NASA received the vehicles that will transport the Artemis crews to the launch pad on Tuesday and the fleet has been provided only by California-based Canoo.

Kano delivered three specially designed electric transport vehicles to carry the crew to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Tuesday. The vehicles can carry four astronauts in spacesuits with support personnel and have space for specialized equipment.

NASA said in a statement that many of the design elements on the vehicles were selected by a team that includes the Artemis launch manager and representatives from the NASA Astronaut Office. According to the image released by the space agency, the vehicles feature NASA and Artemis mission logos and have specially designed wheel wells.

why does it matter: Artemis II is scheduled to launch in November 2024 and is the second of two test flights planned before the United States returns to the lunar surface. The four selected astronauts will fly around the Moon aboard the Orion spacecraft and will be the first humans to venture away from low Earth orbit since NASA’s Apollo 17 mission in 1972.

Prior to Artemis II, the Canoo fleet will be used for astronaut training exercises at the spaceport.

The United States expects to send astronauts to the lunar surface for the second time by 2025, end with Artemis III a task.
