Odessa
Moscow targeted Ukraine’s southern Odesa region for a second night early Wednesday after a key grain deal expired, the local governor alleged. “Everything is clear! Details about the consequences of the massive attack” will be “provided later” from Moscow, regional governor Oleg Kiper said in a telegram.
Earlier, the Kyiv Air Force reported in a post on the same social network that it had detected Kalibr missiles launched from the Black Sea. During the night, wind warnings were also sounded in a dozen Ukrainian regions.
Odessa and its region have three ports through which Ukraine can export its agricultural products under the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which expired on Monday evening, despite the war and a blockade imposed by the Russians. Russia warned Ukraine on Tuesday against its plans to continue grain exports via the Black Sea, warning that there are no “security guarantees” after the deal expires.
The governor indicated that before dawn on Tuesday, explosive missiles and drones sent by Russia to Odessa were “destroyed” by Ukrainian anti-aircraft defenses. Moscow, for its part, said it had destroyed “installations prepared for terrorist acts against Russia” with a wave of missiles.
