Police are rushing to find the mother of a dead newborn in a supermarket car park.
West Midlands Police made this “tragic discovery” just after 9am on Sunday by a public member in the car park of a Morrisons store in Pilston, West Midlands.
It is not known when the baby was born or how they got to the store’s car park on Black Country Route, but police said they are deeply concerned about the baby’s mother’s well-being.
They urgently appeal to her or anyone who knows who she is to come forward.
West Midlands Police Detective Jim Edmonds said: “This is a really sad discovery and we are treating the scene and the child with great care and dignity.
“Although we still don’t know what happened, the thing we do know is that there needs to be a mother out there who needs real help – she is my absolute priority right now.
He added: “We are checking the CCTV and talking to the hospitals, but someone who knows the mother or who she is is watching the appeal.
“I want to talk to her to make sure she’s well and that she can get the help she urgently needs.”
A Morrisons spokesman said the company was assisting police and would not release further details about the discovery.
Anyone with information is requested to contact the police citing April 11 registration 842. Officers can be reached at West- Midlands.police.uk via live chat or via crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111. Public members can also dial 999 in an emergency.
