Montreal – Strict restrictions are now in place in Quebec’s Estri region as it moves from orange to red alert as COVID-19 cases increase.

The new designation under the province’s epidemic response plan is to close restaurants and gyms, and worship sites will be able to accommodate up to 25 people in the region east of Montreal.

The number of new COVID-19 cases in Estri increased last week, which was consistent in other parts of the province.

The Greater Quebec City region and parts of the outback are returning to a red alert after several weeks of severe emergency locking operations, including the closure of schools and essential businesses and a curfew order at 8 p.m.

Quebecs 30 years of age and older are now eligible to register for vaccination appointments as the province continues to expand.

The provincial government says all Quebec adults who wish can register for a vaccination appointment by the weekend.
