Supermarket Slut: Top Five New Soups to Warm Your Winter

There is an old proverb that is widely regarded as Jewish, which says that “worries are better reduced with soup.”

In a week full of small and big worries, I tested this proverb by offering a series of new supermarket soups.

Most of the time, by regretting burning my tongue I found that it was true, even though sometimes my big anxiety subsided for a while.

As expected, not all soups in this category are created equal. Some are full of water; Some are bland; Many are outrageous salt. Others combine strange flavors and ingredients with bad effects, which brings a whole new thing to worry about.

If you feel a little less about the state of the world or the state of your life, a bowl of soup is a great complement to what you need to make. Here are some new favorites.

Here’s a soup that will leave you with a happy warm glow in more than one way – 20c from each bag sold is donated to the North Canterbury Charity. Even if you are not a charity type, this is a great soup. Don’t panic at the thought of lentils and potatoes – they give the soup body and texture, instead of weighing it down. Onions and red capsicum add sweetness, while rosemary and thyme add to the hernia notes.

It’s harder than you think to find a definite Asian-style soup in this section, I had to sample some awkward samples before tasting this. Contains chili, fragrant kaffir lime and ginger, and small nails of tofu. Stretch this a little more (and make it laxa-ish), and pour over some of the cooked noodles.

Artisan lamb, mint and couscous soup (49 5.49 per 500 grams)

It reminds me a little bit of Harira, Moroccan soup traditionally served as a fast breaker during the month of Ramadan. This version is thick and rich, with plenty of good texture from toast and couscous, and a strong, but not overpowering, lamb-y flavor. This is a soup for dinner with the hearty help of crispy bread and hummus on the side.

Pitango Smokey Fish Sauce (49 4.49 per 500 grams)

I would not recommend heating this up at work (unless you want to start a wave of passive-aggression post-its and slack messages), but this subtle chowder is regrettable. The hockey has good particles (it gets bonus points for being a consistent catch) and the saw has a smooth texture. This soup benefits greatly with a little kick of acidity, so squeeze the lemon juice before serving.

Good Taste Go Cream Mushroom Soup with Port (99 5.99 per 600g)

If you really “eat with your eyes”, mushroom soup is a tough sale. Or, as my husband puts it: “It looks like gray sludge.” If you can set aside your appearance agenda for a minute and focus on the tasty and juicy areas of the mushroom in the bowl, you will love this. It’s sweet, but not bland; A fancy choice for a dark fall day.
