Topics to roll out price caps like Twitter Mark Zuckerberg says he’s “optimistic” about the platform and focused on “growing community”

Topics is making a big difference as it continues to grow exponentially as an alternative to Twitter. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, took to the micro-blogging platform to announce that they will be implementing rate caps to fight bots.

“Spam attacks have rebounded so we will have to tighten up on things like rate limits, which will mean more unintentionally reducing active people (false positives),” Mosseri posted on Topics. “If you get stuck with this protection, let us know.”

Price caps are what Elon Musk implemented at the beginning of July to “address extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation.” At the time, Musk said the price caps were only temporary at extreme levels, but he has since eased the restrictions and allowed users to see more tweets per day, especially those users who are subscribed to Twitter Blue and “verified.”

After setting viewing restrictions on Twitter, backlash ensued and Meta seized the opportunity to launch its own competing platform that we now know as Threads. In less than a week, Threads had more than 100 million users signed up to the platform proving people were looking for an alternative to Twitter.

Threads makes it easy for users to sign up because all you need is an Instagram account. Usernames are transmitted and followers are alerted when someone enables their threads profile.

Despite the viewing restrictions for Themes users, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, says he’s “very optimistic about how the Themes community can come together.”

“The early growth was off the charts, but more importantly, tens of millions of people are now coming back every day. Monday, July 17th,” Zuckerberg said.

He continued, “The focus for the rest of the year is to improve and keep the basics. It will take time to stabilize, but once we get that fixed, we’ll focus on growing the community. We’ve run this guide many times (FB, IG, Stories, Reels, etc) and I’m confident Thread is on a good track, too.
