Coco Gauff spills the beans: Shelton-Tiafoe has started talking ATP Tour

In her post-match press conference Sunday at the US Open, Coco Gauff revealed that trash talk had begun between men’s quarter-finalists Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe.

“After my match, Ben and Francis were in the cool-down, or warm-up area, and it was really nice to see all of us there,” said Gauff. “Obviously the conversation had already started with idle talk. I don’t care who wins, but I said Francis was a bit annoyed because I said Ben had better clothes than he did.

Goff, who is also a quarter-finalist, is friends with many American players. She admits that she gave Tiafoe a lot of information about his group.

According to Shelton, the men joked about their clothes, too.

Tiafoe, a semi-finalist at the 2022 US Open, highlighted the trash talk they started about tennis rather than fashion. The struggle will be their first encounter in the Lexus ATP Head2Head.

Goff is thrilled that so many Americans are still racing in the last race of the season. There are three American men in the quarter-finals of the US Open for the first time since 2005, and there will be at least two women from the motherland in the quarter-finals as well.
