CJ Gardner-Johnson fires Eagles fans, then deletes the tweet

Maybe there’s a reason Howie Roseman didn’t bring CJ Gardner-Johnson back on a long-term deal after all.

The now-former Aman Eagles took to Twitter again Tuesday morning to stir up more anger online, then promptly deleted another tweet. It has become a habit for the 25-year-old, who signed a one-year contract with the Lions after turning down a long-term offer from the Eagles.

Here’s a screenshot of the deleted tweet:

He also decided to go on a run with Hurts, Don’t It? The phrase used by Galen Hurtz last year before it was also deleted:

Dude, I don’t know what links you click on, but my Twitter timeline was full of Eagles fans upset that you were gone. (Also, if you’re going to tweet something, say it with your chest. Stop deleting.)

Gardner-Johnson had a stellar 2022 season with the Eagles, tallying a league-high six interceptions in just 12 games and making timely plays in big moments. But his league-wide value wasn’t what he’d hoped for for some reason. Whether this reason is driven by personality or the Xs & Os isn’t entirely clear.

What is clear is that the Eagles had some reservations about the suitability of the Gardner-Johnson regulation once he returned, after days out of free agency. Via Jeff McClain at The Philadelphia Inquirer:

He was prone at times to mental errors or lost tackles, but his instincts and athleticism made up for some of the negatives on the field. Off the field, Gardner-Johnson created some initial friction, but the Eagles’ captains and in-house support led him to buy the program on a contract year. But the team He viewed it as a risk if he signed a multi-year agreement – the risk is that Gardner Johnson could be affected by the millions of dollars he was now being paid.”

He’s a good player, but it’s looking more and more like the Eagles will be fine if they let him go in Detroit. Odds are good, he won’t count six more interceptions in 2023. Bird fans can thank him for the contributions and sentiments as he ran the short story to the Super Bowl and kept it going.
