As anticipation builds for Taylor Swift’s sold-out, Eras tour stop at Levi’s Stadium next week, Santa Clara police and officials at the 49ers’ home have issued a stern warning to tens of thousands of Swifties ready to descend on the venue, saying no backordering will be allowed during events and individuals without valid tickets will not be allowed to congregate in parking lots or surrounding streets.
The pop star’s Eras Tour stops have consistently drawn huge crowds, with fans gathering at venues hours before the doors open, including those without tickets. The crowds created major traffic problems.
“Tailgating is prohibited from use at Taylor Swift concerts and there will be no designated viewing area outside of Levi’s Stadium,” officials said in a statement. Fans without event tickets will not be allowed to gather in parking spaces or on the streets.
Stadium officials also tweeted that “bracelets are not allowed on the court,” addressing the tradition of creating and exchanging friendship bracelets between Swift fans. This practice, likely inspired by the lyrics to her song “You’re on Your Own Kid” from her latest album, “Midnights”, has become an integral part of the concert experience.
It was not immediately clear how stadium officials intend to enforce the ban.
For backdoor bans, the Santa Clara Police Department said it will take an “educational approach” to its enforcement of the policy.
Earlier this week, the Santa Clara City Council moved to honor the singer by naming Swift an honorary mayor during her time in the Bay Area. Santa Clara also plans to temporarily rename the city, home of Levi’s Stadium, “Swifty Clara”.
Mayor Lisa Gilmore’s proclamation aims to “celebrate the positive local impact on the Santa Clara community, as well as the regional impact of Taylor Swift’s music, tours, and exceptional fan base.”
But the pop icon’s temporary title isn’t likely to give her the power to reverse the ban and ban the bracelet.
Swift’s performances at Levi’s Stadium will be her third stop at the 49ers’ home ground. She previously performed in the 68,500-seat arena in 2018 for her Reputation stadium tour, and in 2015 for the 1989 World Tour.
