The Kansas City business is thrilled with the venue for Taylor Swift’s Iris Tour

Taylor Swift’s Iras concerts have come and gone, and local businesses say the economic impact of the Iras tour will stay with them for a long time. It’s the following Monday, and only five Taylor Swift-shaped cakes are left in the display case at Eclairs de la Lune in Independence Square. “It lets our creativity flow, and that’s what Taylor is all about,” said Eclairs Owner and Executive Chef Erin Luttrell. Luttrell says Taylor Swift fans really popped in this past weekend. Not only did the business bring in money but, as Luttrell put it, “everyone was dressed up in great costumes with their friendship bracelets.” Swifty’s job has been good, Luttrell says. In fact, she says she was better than the NFL Draft. “I think it’s bigger than the recruitment because they’re such different groups of people and 80,000 people are here two days in a row to see one person,” Luttrell said. The two-day event didn’t have as many activities built in as the NFL Draft, encouraging locals and visitors alike to fill their time around town. This time, she says, they were prepared for huge crowds and came up with a shuttle for their next big, cookie-themed celebration of Harry Potter’s birthday in late July. Luttrell says her business is expected to come up with themed cookies and sweets for every big event…and she says Taylor Swift’s event didn’t disappoint. “Our society asks for it, and they expected it,” she said. Luttrell says the business has been so good that she gives several of the cookies to an out-of-town family attending the concert Saturday night.
