Vikings Jordan Addison admits lower fees, fines and loss of license for speeding at 140mph

Minnesota Vikings rookie wide receiver Jordan Addison has agreed to plead guilty to driving his luxury sports car at 140 miles per hour on Interstate 94 in St. Paul last month, a plea that will cost him a fine and the loss of his driving privileges.

Terms of the agreement filed Wednesday in Ramsey County Court call for him to plead guilty to frivolous speeding misdemeanor charges, which were originally filed as a misdemeanour, and to dismiss a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.

The plea bargain between the defense and the prosecution includes a $686 fine and license revocation for six months. Assistant City Attorney Stephen Heng said Thursday that the law to which Edison pleaded guilty includes revocation of a driver’s license for six months when a person speeds over 100 mph, in addition to a fine.

Addison, 21, is due to return to court on September 19 before Judge Maria Mitchell, who will decide whether to impose the terms as proposed.

Heng said the terms of the plea bargain “consist with what our office has done with other defendants” who committed similar crimes.

Addison was stopped by a state trooper around 3:15 a.m. on July 20 on eastbound I-94 in St. Paul near the Dale Street exit. He told the cop that an emergency with his dog was the reason he was driving 140 miles per hour in his 2021 Lamborghini Urus SUV that has North Carolina dealer license plates, according to the citation.

Addison, a first-round draft pick from USC, is tied for a four-year, $13.7 million, all-in guaranteed contract, which includes a $7 million signing bonus.
