Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky believes his warmongering Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, will be assassinated by his own people — who will finally kill a murderer.
“There will definitely be a moment when he will feel the fragility of Putin’s regime inside their country,” Zelensky said. He said in a documentary About the first year of Russia’s war on his country.
He predicted that “predators will eat a predator…they will find a reason to kill a killer”.
Zelensky told director Dmitry Komarov that this belief drives his constant appeals to the Russian people even though they “didn’t listen to him”, at least not yet.
Zelensky did not specify exactly who he suspected of turning against Putin. But he believes that the revolutionaries will remember his words when they reach the “key moment” and find “a reason for themselves” to attack.
“Will it work? Yes. But I don’t know when,” he said.
The 45-year-old leader said in the documentary General that it was important for the world to see the true brutality of the war, with footage showing dead bodies strewn across the streets of various Ukrainian cities.
He has proven that Putin is “a tyrant,” Zelensky said.
The documentary was released to mark the first year of the Russian invasion on February 24.
It came as Putin gave a long speech – leaving several key insiders struggling to stay awake – and an interview suggesting that Russia’s survival rested on winning the war.
However, the sharp criticism of the failures of his offensive—which was initially expected to last days or perhaps weeks, rather than a year—severely tested the loyalty of many supporters while sparking infighting.
The head of the feared Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, and the ruthless Chechen leader, Ramzan Kadyrov, have repeatedly expressed their displeasure. The Times of London noted.
The attack also saw mass protests from citizens unheard of in Russia.
A new poll indicates that only 22% of the population strongly support the war – just ahead of just 22% who strongly oppose it, the UK Times notes.
“The problem in Russia is not fascism, it’s apathy,” said Alexey Menyalo, an opposition activist who founded the polling group Chronicles.
