Explosions were heard in Kiev, an official said that an enemy plane was shot down

KIEV, Feb. 25 (Reuters) – Ukrainian forces shot down an enemy plane Over Kiev in the early hours of Friday morning, Anton Hirashchenko, an adviser to the Minister of the Interior, said, then crashed into an apartment building and set it on fire.

It was not clear whether the plane was manned or a missile. Kiev municipal authorities said at least eight people were injured when the object hit an apartment building.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said Kiev was attacked by a missile.

“Horrific Russian missile strikes on Kiev,” he wrote on Twitter. “The last time our capital saw anything like this was in 1941 when it was attacked by Nazi Germany.”

Earlier, a series of explosions was heard in KievWhich Hirashchenko said are the sounds of air defenses firing on the plane. A Reuters witness said he heard other explosions shortly before dawn.

The authorities said that fierce fighting erupted on Friday morning in the city of Sumy in the northeast of the country, while a border post in the southeastern Zaporizhia region was bombarded with missiles, which led to the deaths and injuries of border guards.
