Performed by Brian Harman.
Harman, with a five-shot lead from the middle of the tournament, clinched victory at the British Open on Sunday. Harman, despite wet and rainy conditions at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, England, scored a 1-under 70 and had a 13-under week. That gave him a six-shot victory.
Seb Straka finished second with Jason Day, Tom Kim and Jon Rahm on his 7-under week. Kim had to battle through an ankle injury throughout most of the tournament as well, after he slipped and fell on a patch of wet grass in his rental home. Ram, who pushed him into contention after a difficult first couple of days. He birdied the 18th on Sunday to jump to 7-under.
Rory McIlroy, who won his last major tournament in 2014 when the British Open was held at Royal Liverpool, and Emiliano Grillo finished sixth with 6 less.
Harman’s victory in England marked his third career victory on the PGA Tour, and his first ever victory in a major tournament. His most recent win came at the 2017 Wells Fargo Championship, though he entered the week with five top-10 finishes—three of which were second-place finishes. Harman’s win also earned him $3 million, part of the British Open’s $16.5 million purse. He is now the fifteenth American to win the British Open in the past two decades.
