The company announced that Windham Rotunda, former World Wrestling Entertainment Champion and third-generation professional wrestler known as Bray Wyatt, passed away Thursday at the age of 36.
Mr. Rotunda’s death was announced by WWE Chief Content Officer Paul Levesque, the former wrestler known as Triple H, on Channel X, formerly known as Twitter. WWE also confirmed the death in a statement on their website.
“Known for his captivating performances and incredible presence in the ring, Wyatt was a superstar of his generation and achieved many milestones in WWE, including becoming the WWE Champion in 2017,” the statement read.
Mr. Rotunda was the brother of Taylor Rotunda, better known as Bo Dallas; Son of a Hall of Fame wrestler Mike Rotunda; and grandson of Robert Wyndham, known as Black Jack Mulligan.
Tributes from fans and fellow wrestlers flooded social media Thursday night.
Dwayne Johnson, the former WWE wrestler and actor who played “The Rock,” said on social media that Mr. Wyatt had “a very unique, cool, rare personality, which is hard to create in our crazy pro wrestling world.”
WWE spokesperson Chris Legentil said Mr. Rotunda is survived by his partner, former WWE announcer Jocian Offerman, and his children.
