F-16 in Ukraine, a “nuclear” threat to Moscow

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned in an interview on Thursday that F-16 fighter jets delivered to Ukraine would be considered a nuclear threat by Moscow.

“We will take into account the fact that the Ukrainian armed forces have such systems as a threat to the West in the nuclear sector,” Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with online newspaper Lenta.ru, quoted by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“Russia cannot ignore the ability of these devices to carry nuclear charges,” the head of Russian diplomacy said, promising that Moscow had warned the US, UK and France.

Ukraine aid ‘complicated’ for Australia

Australia has stepped up support for Ukraine ahead of a NATO summit in Lithuania on Wednesday, pledging 30 Bushmaster armored personnel carriers at a cost of $67 million.

But Kiev has also asked Australia about the status of dozens of F-18 fighter jets withdrawn from service, saying they would be a major asset for Ukraine against its military might.

The subject of planes is very complex“, argued the Australian Defense Minister.

Strikes against Kiev

Overnight drone strikes in Kiev killed at least one person and wounded four others, as authorities heard explosions in several neighborhoods before dawn Thursday, the third night of attacks on the Ukrainian capital.

Iranian-made Shahed explosive drones “entered the capital from different directions,” the military administration said, and “a dozen” of them were shot down in the city’s airspace.
