In the old Montreal curfew order rioters set fire and smashed windows

Montreal – Insurgents smashed windows and set fire to old Montreal during a major protest against Quebec’s curfew order on Sunday evening.

As of Sunday evening, curfew orders in the red zones of Quebec begin at 8pm instead of 9:30pm. The change was announced earlier this week by Premier Franோois Legalt, who said it was a preventative measure in anticipation of an outbreak of COVID-19 cases due to variations in the virus.

By 9:45, the crowd had largely dispersed, causing widespread damage. As of 10:15, an SPVM spokesman said the protest was not considered over and could not provide details of arrests or fines.

The meeting comes a day after a major protest against public health measures such as compulsory masking and alternative attendance in Quebec schools.
