An important goal for the mission of perseverance on Mars is astronomy, including the search for signs of ancient microbial life.
The rover will be the first to classify the planet’s geography and past climate, pave the way for human exploration of the Red Planet, and to collect and cache Mars rock and regolith (broken rock and dust). If successful, it will be the first controlled aircraft to operate on Mars.
