Voting opens in early July and runs through August 30. Winners of the “Best Marketer / Merchant” titles will receive a commendation for the 2022 NGA Exhibition.

The Creative Choice Awards are determined by a panel of professionals and business journal members selected from entries submitted between December 1, 2019 and January 15, 2021. This year, the NGA noted that the award categories reflect the “new nature” of the retail grocery landscape that emerged during the COVID-19 epidemic. Despite the crisis, the competition increased the number of record entries to more than 650 in total, the association said.

The corona virus outbreak in 2020 brought unprecedented challenges and changes. This means that the regular promotions of most groceries have been drastically changed and completely thrown away to start anew, ”commented Laura Strange, senior vice president of communications and external affairs at the NGA. “But the independent grocers are very innovative and prosperous retailers, and their success stories this year demonstrate their ability to thrive even in the most difficult times.”
